T-T-T-Takin' It To the Streets

So, tonight as been a very busy night with posting. I thought I would share a little experience Brett, Brett's girlfriend, and I shared a number of days ago at the Ottobar. Ted Leo and The Pharmacists were scheduled to play and Brett and I decided to go on a whim, because, hey, Ted Leo is awesome and his shows are always fun. This show was particularly memorable because Ted and the Pharmacists had played over half their set, roughly, and then suddenly the power went out. The street lights were on outside, but there was no power inside the Ottobar.

To kill the time, Ted started up acapella sing-a-longs of "Since U Been Gone" and "Don't Stop Believin'." We all forgot the words of both songs at one point or other, but it was a lot of fun. Then, he was able to get a hold of an acoustic guitar from the first band to play, Georgie James (ex-member of Q and Not U Jon Davis's band...check them out!), and then he proceeded to play a Lungfish song...that's what I read in some recap of the show on Pitchfork. Anyways, it was not getting any cooler inside the venue and it was kind of hard to hear Ted as people were being a little loud, so Mr. Leo decided to take it to the street. He jumped off the stage and failed to notice a trashcan at the side of the stage, and as a result knocked it over/fell into it. But nothing can stop Ted Leo! He was back on his feet in a few seconds and he headed out the front door of the Ottobar. Everyone followed out and circled around him outside. One part of the circular mass took up one part of the street, which was great for cars driving by...especially the big city buses. No one was hurt, fortunately, and Ted played a song called "Mace and Grenades" by Hugh Masekela along with the frontman for the other band on the bill that night (The Jai Alai Savant). It had to be one of the most surreal experiences of my life as I stood in the front row, an arm's length away from Ted Leo! It was crazy to have one of my musical influences right smack in front of me. As much as I would have liked to sing-a-long with him, I had no idea as to what the lyrics were. So, I did the next best thing, and clapped along...haha. Anyways, it was crazy and a lot of fun and thank God for technology...Brett had his camera out and captured video of the song outside. Below you will find the footage he got. Notice the surroundings. I'll provide the link to the youtube.com page, as well, because you cannot resize the video when watching it on an embedded player.

Enjoy.

*I tried to insert the code to put the player here, but the blog would not allow me to do so. On top of that, I had to read the code from youtube and type it here...nah, that didn't work either. Just click the link above.*
